Michelle is the Founding Partner of Ferrer Goldfine Law Group. Michelle is a business and trust and estates attorney. In addition to providing legal and business counsel to companies, she focuses her practice on advising individuals and business owners on all aspects of estate planning. Using her law and business degrees, as well as her first-hand experience as a business owner, she is able to understand clients' issues and concerns and provide them with legal solutions based on their individual needs.
Michelle’s practice includes creating estate planning documents such as wills, trusts, and other ancillary documents. The estate plans range from outright wills to more complex tax-minimization trusts. She is experienced in advising high net worth individuals on sophisticated estate planning techniques, as well as gift tax analysis and planning. Michelle has assisted families, business owners, executives, and closely-held family businesses, in conserving, managing and transferring wealth, while minimizing transfer taxes.
Michelle's practice also includes a full range of services related to Special Needs Planning and Guardianships. Promoting a strategy that focuses on early planning, she assists clients in developing a strategy to protect assets, plan for incapacity, and protect those with special needs.
Michelle tries to emphasize to her clients that estate planning is one of the most loving things they can do for their family, and she finds great satisfaction in assisting clients in navigating through the estate planning process.
Prior to founding Ferrer Goldfine Law Group (formerly known as Plata Ferrer Law Group LLC and Plata Ferrer & Gutierrez LLC) in 2010, Michelle worked at a division of a large investment firm, where she provided estate planning and wealth management services to executives of fortune 1000 companies. She also managed several family-owned businesses, and uses that knowledge to advise the Firm's business clients. Michelle also sits on the Boards of two non-profit organizations, Guardians of Healing, Inc. and the Hispanic Business Council Scholarship Foundation of NJ, Inc. Michelle is a graduate of Fordham University, where she studied Spanish Language and Literature and Political Science, and earned the Outstanding Achievement in Spanish Language and Literature Award. She obtained her Juris Doctorate from American University – Washington College of Law. During her tenure, Michelle spent a semester in Chile and Argentina, where she studied International Law. She also worked as Lead Dean’s Fellow for the Legal Analysis Program as well as a Research Dean’s Fellow for the Legal Rhetoric and Writing Department. Michelle earned her Masters in Business Administration from American University – Kogod School of Business.
Michelle is admitted to practice law in the State of New Jersey and the State of New York.
Michelle speaks Spanish fluently and has a large Spanish-speaking client base.
Michelle currently resides with her husband and five children in Essex County and focuses her practice in Essex, Hudson, Bergen, and Passaic counties. Michelle is a private pilot and enjoys flying planes in her free time.
